Ervand Gojabashyan (1939)

Born in Aleppo, Syria, in 1939.

1966 – Graduated from the Art-Theater Institute in Yerevan.

1967 – Participated in national, union-wide, and international exhibitions.

Early 1980s – Relocated to the United States.

Notable works include: “Saint” (1965), “Dove” (1967), “Anush” (1969), “Emma” (1973), etc. Sculptures: “Conversation” (1967), “Adolescence” (1973), “Ani” Hotel Entrance Relief (1970, Yerevan), Arts Institute Facade Relief (1969-1970, Dushanbe), Hovhannes Shiraz Bust for the eponymous school (1971, Vanadzor). These works blend classical sculptural principles with national elements.

In the U.S., created more stylistically free works, yet within the same aesthetic principles: “Chopin’s Portrait” (1983), “Eternity” (1983), “Memory of the Dead Horse” (1989), “Baptismal Font” (1989), etc.

2001 – Invited by the Catholicos of All Armenians to Echmiadzin to sculpt a high relief for the new entrance of the monastery.

Works are held in the Modern Art Museum (Yerevan), the National Gallery of Armenia (Yerevan), the Museum of Wood Art (Yerevan), and the Tretyakov Gallery (Moscow).
